The Petra collection began as a neighborly project in the heart of Denver’s westside Barnum neighborhood. Our design studio was next door to a stone mason who had a large back stock of stone remnants from countertop installations.

Over the course of two years, building a relationship with our stone mason neighbors, we finally arrived at the moment where a collaborative project was merited. Our Founder and Furniture Designer, Jerri, drew and created shop drawings for a small side table and coffee table that would only require smaller remnants of stone to be fabricated (versus whole or half slabs of new materials).

Because the stone was essentially a “waste” material, all of the cost of producing the tables could be dedicated to labor; an actual livable wage in fact, which is hard to do in metro Denver.

Dozens of tables later, we have, on a small scale, exampled one of the many ways that circular design practices (in this case using waste as a “new” input for a product) could not only bring about beautiful designs, but also keep the economic benefits in the local community whilst reducing that community’s hard-to-dispose-of waste.
